Studies have shown women who have consistent chiropractic care throughout their pregnancies may have shorter and less painful labours, with fewer complications and interventions.
Pelvic imbalances during pregnancy can cause stress on the
large ligaments that connect the sacrum to the uterus. As the weight of the baby increases, so does the pressure on your spine. The combination may cause the individual spinal bones (vertebrae) and the sacrum to misalign, which can cause localized sharp pain in the back or buttocks, possibly leading to pain or numbness in the legs.
It should also be noted that when the bones of the pelvis
are in balance and moving well, the uterus is able to enlarge symmetrically as the baby grows. If the pelvis is imbalanced, unequal ligamentous support may affect the positioning of the baby thus preventing the best possible positioning for birth. This may lead to longer, more painful labours with increased possibility of medical interventions.
Chiropractic during pregnancy is a gentle, safe and non-invasive approach to:
- Decreasing neck and back pain
- Improving overall functioning of the spine and pelvis
- Allowing the most optimal movement for you and your baby
